How to Start Making Rap Beats

So are you a rap artist or just a hip hop music enthusiast who has been toying with the idea of jumping into the producer world?

Here is a quick overview of the steps I would take if I were just starting out again. First I would spend as much time as I could possibly stand on youtube. Watch beat making videos, watch tutorials and demos, and just basically study the structure of hip hop tracks and instrumentals. If you want people to want to buy instrumentals that you are making than this is a must for a starter. You need to study the process of making the beat. The intro, the verses, the bridge, the chorus, the outro and more. You need to study breakdowns, drops, and the different styles.

Once you gather all the knowledge of what a beat is about then you need to start researching different production software such as pro tools, cubase, sonar, reason, and FL Studio. You can find some demo downloads of some of these softwares to help you decide which one you will prefer. All of the softwares are similar but at the same time have some major differences that different producers prefer. There is always hardware like the motif and the phantom to use as well but if you are just starting you are probably on a budget and these will come into play later on.

Once you get the last two steps accomplished then it is time to research some Vsti’s which are basicall virtual instrumentals that plug into your software. Once again youtube is your best choice because you can see the instrument working as well as hear the wuality in the sounds. Do a search for best vsti’s and you should come up with quite a few results.

Now it is time for you to start your voyage and dive head first into your new life. I promise once you pump out your first quality beat you will be hooked forever. Good luck and make some hits!
