Back At It (2/6/09)

So i took a little vacation from the website recently. I guess i just burned myself out. I had no idea what it took to Run, Operate, And manage a website as well as SEO to get search engine traffic. To say the least i really was not focused on anything particular in my life. Finding time for my 9-5, my relationship, my family and friends was not really an option while i was neck deep into running this site.

Well... Now im back.

So make sure to stay posted for large updates to the beats, as well as to the rest of the features on the site. I am currently working on a guide for producers and artist to show you step by step how to get recognition and get noticed using the internet as a way to network your music.

Do you want to start a web page?

Do you want your site to show up in the top 10 results on google when someone types in the search term "rap music"?

If so that is what i am going to show you how to do without all the extra bullshit. I have been at this for quite some time. Within 3 months i had my site in the top 5 search results for google and yahoo with my select search terms. And i guarantee now that im back at it i will be in the top 3 or 2 before you know it. Stay posted and make sure to signup to my newsletter because i will be keeping everyone posted as to where i stand with this project. The goal is to set a release date for mid March. Stay tuned and make sure to get your hands on this guide because it could be life changing for you! I know this site has been life changing for me. It took alot of work but if you are willing it will pay off.

Well check out the page and make sure to sign up cause you WILL need this guide!

Crate Digging: The New Age

Today i was working on some beats when i decided i wanted to hit up some of my old school roots and work on some sampled beats for the "Mood Swings" mixtape that my man Rated R is planning on releasing in February. It was then when i suddenly realized how the digital age of producing has changed so much. As i sat at my computer and fired up my browser and limewire I began to think of which artists i wanted to try and find unheard music from and try and find a little gem to sample. Then i decided to head straight to torrentpond and search for the keyword music and download some random tunes i had never heard before. As i ran down to grab a soda i almost tripped over my turn table sitting on the floor and realized that i probably had not touched it to make a beat in close to a year. In a way it was depressing to think that my little baby that i payed no more than 200 bucks for was probably going to barely be used ever again. Vinyl is a thing of the past. Now dont get me wrong.. I still like to hit the local vinyl store every once in a while and hope to find that sweet little rythym or that dope drum beat.. But for the most part i dont have to leave my desk. I search randomly.. I download.. Then i load up into acid and chop away. 20 Minutes later im loading my chops up and i'm on my way to more classic rap beats. Its funny to think where we are going to be in another 10 years. I just saw an add on TV for a new touch screen computer. It is scarry to think what we will be looking at in the future. The music industry as a whole has changed exponentially in the last 5 years. Im intrigued to see what happens in the next 5.

It Started With A Beat!!

It all started with a beat..

The first question to ask yourself is this.... What are you doing in your life at the moment to ensure that you will end up financially independent? The second question to ask yourself is... What am i doing to make money that makes me happy?

Not every individual is going to have the same answer. As a matter of fact the answers are going to vary in great ranges. Personally this is how i would have answered those 2 questions as of a few months ago. Currently i am working a 9 - 5 making enough money to get by on. So in reality i wasnt doing much towards the whole financially independent thing. The answer to the second question was also a big nothing.

What we dont understand is that the little plans that we come up with in our heads that last the weekend then fizzle out, or we tell our buddies we wanna do and never follow through with are actually within our grasps. We go through life not really thinking we can reach for the stars. Wether it's the fact that we dont think we are capable or the fact that some of us watch our parents, friends, and family go through life just getting by. What we need to do is release all of those thoughts and take a chance. You may fall flat on your face the first time through but you may succeed. Now ehn i say succeed im not talking about making 100 grand in the first year.. or even the second. Im talking about getting the realization and the feeling of accomplishment that what you infact dreamed up and tried to do is not going to fail.

Let me give you my personal story. My major downfalls in my personality are my procrastination, and laziness. Hell, i have trouble getting out of bed within an hour after my alarm goes off. Why? Because i have that little voice in my head saying don't worry about it.. just hit snooze again, you'll be able to get done everything you need to today. Next thing i know it is noon, i have 5 hours before dark and 7 hours of work i need light to do.

The unfortunate part is that it took financial issues for me to attempt to turn my life around. As i looked at my bills and realized that i really was in trouble my laziness didnt have an option to overpower me. But.. unfortunately my procrastination did. I got up everyday with a plan to do this and that. I needed to get a loan to consolidate this debt. I needed to call this person to get this rolling or that going. Yet.. i would still tend to put if off until the next day for no aparent reason. Finally i was sitting at my desk at work on what should have been a fairly carefree day when a could of stress just overtook me. I had not been analyzing the situation at all and i guess it just clicked that i was probably on the verge of ruining my credit, and hurting myself for the future.
At this point somthing else takes over. It is funny that you dont just take these options to better your life and make them happen without out a strong force driving you to do so. We know what we could get out of a little exercise in the morning before work yet it is like pulling teeth to get us up an hour early to do so. I really dont have a good way to tell you how to change the way you think.. but if you are in the same situation that i was you just need to take action!

Here is what i did:

I have made hip hop beats since i was 15. I never really got deep into the production end until i was about 18 or 19 but once i did it seemed like it was all that i would ever do. 40 beats a month on average on top of my 9-5. But what would i do with these beats? NOTHING
I soon hooked up with a local record label called Empire State Recordz and finally got a chance to hear an "real" artist rap on my beats. This gave me an entirely new addiction to making beats. The only problem still was the lack on income for this job that i was spending 40 hours a week working on on top of my 9 - 5 job. I remember hearing myself say " Im gonna sell my beats online.. I know a decent bit about website production" probably about 20 times but nevr followed it up.

Finally one day about 4 months ago i decided i was gonna do it. I was going to start a website where i placed my beats for sale. I worked hard for about 2 weeks on the layout.. tagged and uploaded my songs to my serer and wa-la. I was in business. The only problem was a slow start. I didnt realize how much there was to play a part in SEO. The last time i worked on a website i was about 12 and there wasn't much more involved other than on site optimization.

So here we are in month four and i really am into this site now. Beats are up, mixtape downloads are up and much more. The next 6 months will be crunch time and the deciding factor to wether or not this site is going to pay off. So far the outlook is looking good! Sales are being made and connections are being connected.

I have worked with artists such as Rated R (ESR), Lavish (ESR),Tom Gist (Early Lite/Dipset),Rain (First In Flight), and Ali Vegas..

My website is listed at 16DollarBeats.com and has many Industry Quality Royalty free and affordable hip hop beats for sale

As my SEO continues my PR and rankings will start to increase quickly. And from there it is a task to keep this website profitable and then branch out to other similar websites to grow my business.

16Dollarbeats.com - It Started With A Beat

Whats up. I just created the website http://www.16dollarbeats.com
This website offers cheap priced industry quality hip hop rap and r&b beats. Soon enough i will be adding downloadable drum kits, sound samples, and loop samples, as well as a featured artist section for tracks that use my beats. I plan on taking you through my journey of trying to produce a successfuly website. The music industry is crashing right now when it comes to corporate record labels it almost seems as though they will be no longer soon enough. With companies like live nation taking over the biggest artists in the industry (Madonna, U2, Jay-z) the industry should be scared. This gives one company the monopoly of the artist. They control their albums, their concert, their merchandise, their videos, and much more. If live nation is successfull with these artists then watch out for them in the future.
Well the point of my rant is networking over the internet. I have already made my way to artists like Tom Gist of Early Lite / Dipset (who is an incredible artist if you have not had the chance to check him out) The whole crew at Empire State Recordz which is the label i work with, and currently have works in progress with rain and ali vegas of rich-soil entertainment. All via the internet. This website i am working on is going to be focused at the up and coming artists trying to get mixtapes and demos together. Artists who are working a 9 - 5 and cant afford 500 bucks a beat so they can get a demo out. I plan on taking you along with me and recording my strategies at advertising and marketing and will let you know how i make out. Please feel free to leavwe me comments and let me know if you have any ideas and inputs!!
