Crate Digging: The New Age

Today i was working on some beats when i decided i wanted to hit up some of my old school roots and work on some sampled beats for the "Mood Swings" mixtape that my man Rated R is planning on releasing in February. It was then when i suddenly realized how the digital age of producing has changed so much. As i sat at my computer and fired up my browser and limewire I began to think of which artists i wanted to try and find unheard music from and try and find a little gem to sample. Then i decided to head straight to torrentpond and search for the keyword music and download some random tunes i had never heard before. As i ran down to grab a soda i almost tripped over my turn table sitting on the floor and realized that i probably had not touched it to make a beat in close to a year. In a way it was depressing to think that my little baby that i payed no more than 200 bucks for was probably going to barely be used ever again. Vinyl is a thing of the past. Now dont get me wrong.. I still like to hit the local vinyl store every once in a while and hope to find that sweet little rythym or that dope drum beat.. But for the most part i dont have to leave my desk. I search randomly.. I download.. Then i load up into acid and chop away. 20 Minutes later im loading my chops up and i'm on my way to more classic rap beats. Its funny to think where we are going to be in another 10 years. I just saw an add on TV for a new touch screen computer. It is scarry to think what we will be looking at in the future. The music industry as a whole has changed exponentially in the last 5 years. Im intrigued to see what happens in the next 5.
