New Post Update: Another Free Instrumental Beat – “Close the door” http://ow.ly/1f3Hyc

The Beat Debate: Sampled or Original?

When browsing the net for Hip Hop Instrumentals there are two main categories of instrumentals to focus on. Those categories are original beats and sampled beats. A lot of hip hop artists tend to lean towards sampled beats for their style of choice. If you are doing this then here are a few things you may need to consider. The main focus should be if you are working on your album or a non for profit project (mixtape, etc.). If you are working on an album with a low budget then you should stay away from all sampled beats. Most sampled beats that you will find on the internet will not have approved sample clearance. Without sample clearance you are not allowed to use these instrumentals on your album without paying for the clearance of the samples and this can end up being very expensive. So when making the decision between sampled or original beats make sure to take this into consideration before purchasing.

Exclusive or Non-Exclusive Hip Hop Beats?

So you are ready to shop for some hip hop beats? Do you know exactly what you are looking for and what kind of license you need? Here are the first questions you need to ask yourself.

  • Am I working on an official album or other (mixtape, music page, ets.)?
  • How much money do I want to spend?
  • Do I want to be the only person out there with the beat?

Exclusive Beats

If you are working on an official album then when you are shopping for your beats for sale you want to take a couple of things into consideration. The 1st being how much money you have in your budget. If you have the financial ability you want to focus on exclusive beats for sale. When purchasing a beat exclusively you are going to get sole rights to the beat you purchase and most of the time you will also receive the tracked out version of the beat. Based on the producer there will be different royalty agreements but you need to take that up on a per beat basis. The beauty of getting the sole rights to the beat is that there is no chance that you will hear the same beat being used by another artist on an album or other form of media. The downside to these kind of beats is that you will be spending quite a bit of money. Exclusive beat usually range from $500 and up so keep that in mind when making your decision.

Non-Exclusive Beats

If you are currently working on a mixtape project, demo, or another non profit project that you will want to look to buy instrumentals that are Non Exclusive leases. When purchasing non exclusive beats the main purpose is to buy an affordable instrumental. Usually you will receive the beat in a mp3 form and sometime a wav form is aailable. Non Exclusives can range form usually $10 to $100. The downside to buying these types of beats is that they can be sold by the producer over and over and over. This means that hundreds of others may have the same beat to work with that you do. This is most definitely an affordable option when choosing what kind of beat to purchase.

I hope this helps in your beat purchasing voyage

How to Start Making Rap Beats

So are you a rap artist or just a hip hop music enthusiast who has been toying with the idea of jumping into the producer world?

Here is a quick overview of the steps I would take if I were just starting out again. First I would spend as much time as I could possibly stand on youtube. Watch beat making videos, watch tutorials and demos, and just basically study the structure of hip hop tracks and instrumentals. If you want people to want to buy instrumentals that you are making than this is a must for a starter. You need to study the process of making the beat. The intro, the verses, the bridge, the chorus, the outro and more. You need to study breakdowns, drops, and the different styles.

Once you gather all the knowledge of what a beat is about then you need to start researching different production software such as pro tools, cubase, sonar, reason, and FL Studio. You can find some demo downloads of some of these softwares to help you decide which one you will prefer. All of the softwares are similar but at the same time have some major differences that different producers prefer. There is always hardware like the motif and the phantom to use as well but if you are just starting you are probably on a budget and these will come into play later on.

Once you get the last two steps accomplished then it is time to research some Vsti’s which are basicall virtual instrumentals that plug into your software. Once again youtube is your best choice because you can see the instrument working as well as hear the wuality in the sounds. Do a search for best vsti’s and you should come up with quite a few results.

Now it is time for you to start your voyage and dive head first into your new life. I promise once you pump out your first quality beat you will be hooked forever. Good luck and make some hits!

How to Find Free Hip Hop Instrumentals

If you are a brand new artist or or an artist that is just short on funds right now, you probably are not very interested to buy instrumentals. Instead you are probably scratching your head wondering where you can get some free beats. We can all go out and get ourselves some jacked industry beats from the last jay z or eminem album, but who really wants to do that? If you are on the search for free beats then there are a few options I will show you so you can start looking immediately.

The first spot to check is youtube. Just search for free rap beats or free hip hop beats and you will have thousands of results with beats and download links to look into. The second and most obvious place to go is to do a search in google looking for free beats and once again you will hae thousands of sites to search through, You may find that you have more difficulty here though in trying to actually find the free beats to download. The third spot that you should look into are hip hop forums across the net. If you do a search in google for the following, “rap forum” + “free beats” , then you should come up with another group of sites to check out for free beats. The other good part of searching in the forums is that you can engage in direct contact with the producer as well as post your fnished track.

Now I don’t want to discourage you but here are a few downsides to using free rap beats. First and foremost the biggest problem is that there most likely are thousands of other artists that have downloaded and used the same exact beat. Secondly you need to see if there is a disclaimer or agreement you are supposed to follow. Based on the producers agreement, the beat may be free for you to use but you may not be able to sell the beat without the producers consent or without then purchasing a lease agreement to get the selling rights. The third thing to be on the lookout for is if the free beats are sampled beats. Now we all love sampled hip hop beats but you must remember that if there are samples in the beats you are using then you need to get sample clearance or the producer needs to get sample clearance in order for you to legally use the beat and sell it.
